If good news was Versace’s farewell to the use of kangaroo leather for her creations in direct response to the tragic fires that devastated Australia at the beginning of the year (the latter follows that of the abandonment of furs by of many renowned brands), the fashion presented on the catwalks of Milan Men’s Fashion Week has taken the ecological issue head-on and intends to give concrete and strong messages to its followers on social networks and its loyal customers.

The leitmotif that tied most of the various brands present at the Milan fashion show with an invisible thread was not to remain indifferent to the serious problem of climate change, to show a sensitivity without veils to fight pollution and to be spokespersons for an invitation to reflection for the protection of the planet. During the various fashion shows, presentations, events and conferences, messages were launched that invited people to reflect and question their consciences, and responses through the various collections with sustainable clothes and accessories that use materials derived from eco-friendly processes with a minimum or no impact on the environment. This commitment has been translated into the search for the best raw materials, the use of fine technical fabrics. Sustainability translated with excellent proposals and collections focused on the wearability of clothes and adaptability to the harmony of body shapes.

"Stylist, King of the Sustainable" was certainly Valerio Farina who through messages hidden on the catwalk by deciduous leaves dried up from autumn that with the parade of his brand Numero 00 gave the strongest signal, hitting the hearts of fans. The page #Evolution is striking by viewing its website, where a counter counts the millions of tons of toxic chemical waste released into the environment since the beginning of the year. The famous Italian casual wear brand supports the Cetacea Foundation, a non-profit organization that deals with the protection of turtles in the Adriatic Sea.

The engagement has been transformed in reality with the capsule of lace-up shoes, which are made up of innovative and 100% sustainable fabrics such as carbon fabric bamboo (which has natural anti-odor properties), the one in suede derived from 100% PET recycled and the one derived from the coffee beans. Numero 00’s garments are characterized by landscape’s patterns and colors that we find in nature – emerald green, sky blue, military green – and have fluid fits that gently accompany the body and make it the object of desire thanks to the warm fabrics used such as fleece, which seem looking for a physical contact, a hug, and that are promoters of a romantic change with a naturalistic approach, the only way to heal our suffering world.

C.P. Company already lives in a future dimension. At the occasion of its press preview participants were welcome in an immersive set, a David Curtis-Ring concept and set design, sounds by Daniele Guerini.

This speculative urban environment magnifies the textural landscapes of garments from the brand’s FW020 collection. C.P. Company, founded in Bologna in 1971 by Massimo Osti has created a collection comprises of a series of structural elements that together represent the entire spectrum of this hypothetical next landscape: ranging from remastered ultralight and high-performance version of the iconic Urban Protection Metropolis jacket in Dyneema and GoreTex Xenia and Infinium, to crystal jackets made from a dyed achronic flat profile nylon with visible structural accents and a related series of down jackets to aged metallic patinas and a colour palette of faded industrial pastels.

Particular attention has been given to the Urban Protection Metropolis jacket, specifically its elaborate system of storage pockets (in itself a signature brand detail). The Metropolis pocket system is repeated, retuned, concentrated and expanded into new ergonomic formations throughout the collection in a ghostly signature of what functional clothing might mean in the future.

Matchelss London, the historic motorcycle industry house founded by Henry Collier in 1899 and now also a fashion brand, takes to the track in favor of the environment. In fact, on the occasion of Fashion Week, its new line of vegan jackets was launched, the WW0 that is entirely made using leather of non-animal origin but vegetable with corn extracts. Today Matchless could be found in the wardrobes of public figures such as His Holiness Pope Francis, Bill Clinton, top celebrities as Dwayne Johnson, Gerard Butler, Tom Hardy, Daniel Craig. Matchless became the jackets of choice for key blockbuster productions such as James Bond Spectre, Star Wars, The Expendables 3, Avengers 2, Batman VS Superman etc. Matchless London produces the fashion capsule of outerwear inspired by Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The designer and stylist Matthew Williams has always been engaged in the creation of garments with sustainable processes and with minimum or zero environmental impact, the same who in the past boasted collaborations with Alexander McQueen, Kim Jones for Dior and Lady Gaga, has signed the Moncler collection. The 6 MONCLER 1017 ALYX 9SM project (where the last three digits stand for his date of birth, his daughter’s name and the address of the brand’s founding studio at No. 9 in Saint Mark Place in New York) was born from a metropolitan and industrial brand attitude presenting exactly these characteristics combined with distinctive techniques and details signed by the hardware, the designer’s trademark.

cms_15723/9.jpg

The classic duvets renowned for wearability and comfort are reworked by the designer and recreate his characteristic metropolitan style. The chromatic gradations on nylon base become tactile and irregular. Ultrasonic taping and welding techniques play a key role in this collection, while leggings and sweaters are made of Econyl®, regenerated nylon derived from waste materials such as plastic recovered from the oceans. To the down jackets, to the padded parkas, to the very light windbreakers, to the sleeveless jackets and to the leather coats, there are accessories with a strong impact such as belts in chain with carabiners, backpacks with vest or built-in hat and neoprene boots with sole in rubber. The idea is to merge their respective DNA together, creating absolutely new products for Moncler.
